Message from Essex County Council - Careers Enterprise Network

The programme of Enterprise Advisers working with schools is aimed at ensuring that young people are equipped with skills necessary to begin building for a successful career. I’m sure that you will know that the Employment and Skills Board for Essex has identified that there are gaps within 7 key sectors –construction, IT & digital, logistics, care, health, business & finance and engineering & manufacturing – and it is from these that we are most keen to recruit our Enterprise Advisers.

Our role is to match secondary schools with senior representatives from businesses and organisations in order to inspire young people and ensure when they leave school they have the beginning of a skill-set that will last them a lifetime of employment. It would enhance the programme to have representatives from the Harlow area to be an Enterprise Adviser and directly linked with a school local to them.

The role of an Enterprise Adviser is to liaise with the Senior Leadership Team at a school to help expand and develop a strategic plan for the schools’ career and employer engagement programme.  Working alongside students, the Adviser and other colleagues from the workplace will help them understand how a company’s values can directly affect the work they undertake and what makes a suitable applicant to join an organisation.
